Sometimes I call out to my kids in another room and there is no answer. Deafening silence. Surely, there’s a great reason for completely ignoring the angelic voice of their mother, right? As I traipse off the their rooms to find the reason they’re ignoring my calls, I see right away what the problem is. They’ve got these giant headphones strapped onto their noggins, the volume of whichs drowns out the voice of the one who birthed them.
As soon as they take off the headphones, they can hear me loud and clear.
That got me thinking… aren’t we that way with God? Sometimes we can’t hear Him either, even though He’s talking. Even if what He has to say is really good, and it’s not just reminding us to clean out the cat litter box. Why? It’s because we’ve allowed something else to be louder, and whatever that is, it’s drowning out the voice of our Savior.
So here’s my question today: what’s playing on your headphones? If it’s God, telling you how much He loves you and the great plans He has for you, and giving you the next steps for your life, you’re good to go! But guess what? Sometimes we lay those headphones down, don’t we?
Sometimes we lay them down and leave our ears unshielded. Open to satan’s whispers.
“You’re not pretty.”
“You’re not good at that.”
“No one loves you.”
“You’re a bad mom.”
“Give up now.”
“No one will notice if you’re gone…”
And just like that, satan’s whispers become what you believe, because it’s all you can hear.
Don’t give him that victory.
You are beautiful. In fact, we’re told in 1 Peter 3:3-4, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Boo-yah, satan.
You ARE great at that. And better yet, you’ll get better in time! We’re reminded of this in Philippians 1:6, ““being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
God loves you so much, he gave his most precious gift to trade for YOU! Listen to God’s heart in Zepheniah 3:17. “The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior Who saves! He will rejoice over you with joy: He will rest in silent satisfaction and in His love He will be silent and make no mention of past sins or even recall them; He will exult over you with singing.” (Amp)
Man, you know God loves you when He doesn’t bring up your past sins. Yet satan wants to do that every single day, doesn’t he?
Your kid has exactly the mom he’s meant to have, and hey guess what? It’s YOU! Proverbs 127:3-5 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Maybe we’re not the best mom ever. But you were hand-picked. And you are a work in progress yourself. Don’t be so hard on yourself! If you’re growing as a Christian, and pointing the way for your kids to do that same thing, you are a GREAT mom!
Keep going, run the race until you finish. Phillipians 3:14 reminds us to, “ press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
You are created for a purpose, and you would leave a hole in this world that only you could fill.
Matthew 18:12-14 says, “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” ONE. God knows you by name. Knows the hairs on your head. Assuming you wouldn’t be missed dismisses the fact that you were created for a purpose. And hey guess what? Didn’t we already talk about God continuing what he started in you? Yes, I think we did.

So what’s it gonna be? Whose voice comes through loud and clear on your headphones? The one who seeks to destroy you and leave you broken?
Or the ONE that seeks to take your brokenness and make you perfect in Him? What we listen to, we become. If you have on the wrong headphones, swap those bad boys out. Choose to listen to the ONE who created you, because his voice is the only one that matters.
She is free… to listen.
Cheering for you,
Karen
