Just-In-Case Faith

Have you ever truly examined your faith? No matter what it is, whether moving across the country, starting a new business, applying to college, or even looking for God to provide daily needs, it all needs faith.

This week has been immensely stressful. First I was on the island, then booted off the island. We keep searching for houses in our new town, even though we’ve already found the one we love. Why?

Just. In. Case.

Just in case… what? Hubs asked me why I was still looking when I’d already found one I loved. Well,
it’s just in case. Just in case someone else buys it first. Or the financing doesn’t got through. Or the bank needs more of a down payment than what we have. Or. Or. Or… Okay, you got me. I had a Plan B. You know, in case God doesn’t come through. The realization was a smack upside the head! What is the matter with me?

Do you ever have those thoughts? A “Plan B” in case Plan A doesn’t work out?

My thoughts this morning went immediately to the Bible. Those who stepped out in faith for Jesus to work a miracle never had a Plan B. Jesus was it! The woman who was healed from her nonstop bleeding… she put everything on the line to get to Jesus just to touch His robe, even though society had shunned her. Zaccheus climbed a tree just so he could watch Jesus pass by. Not because he needed anything from Jesus, but because he needed the presence of Jesus in his life! His miracle wasn’t a physical need, but a spiritual one! Then there’s Lazarus. When he died, his sisters had no Plan B either, except to have Jesus fix it and heal him.

What about Peter, when he walked out to meet Jesus on the water? You know what he didn’t do? He didn’t say “Hold on Jesus, let me strap on this life preserver. Just. In. Case.” He stepped out, eyes only on the One who asked him to take the step to begin with. Here’s the thing: the Bible is full of people who stepped out in faith to do what God asked them to do.

Miracles don’t come to those with weak faith, who grab a life preserver before they step out on the water. They come to those who can’t see the depth of the ocean, because they’re too busy focusing on the one who called them out on the water to begin with.

We can’t focus on the depth of the ocean. In my case, I don’t need to have a Plan B until Plan A doesn’t work! I don’t need to look at any other house until the one I love belongs to someone else. Is there anything you have Plan B thoughts for, when God’s still asking you to do Plan A? Don’t stress. We can take this ginormous leap of faith together, me with my house, and you with your giant “thing.” Just remember, if God’s called us out on it to walk with him, there’s no life preserver needed. Let’s just get out of the boat and walk His way.

XOXO,

Love the message you are conveying here, about stepping out in faith without a back up plan! AMEN!
