Today, I miss my grandmother

I have always gone through life with some odd sense of separation. People come into your life – or mine, as the case may be – and they go. In mine, they more often go than come. My mother left when I was 3. My brother died when I was 5. Aunts and Uncles came, and for various reasons, later went. My grandmother (who raised me as her own child) died in 1998 when I was 22. Identity Crisis…

I have to confess the reason why I appear to be absent from my blog so often.  People blog for so many different reasons. Some document their family lives. Some document their hobbies. Some write all about their work or careers.  I admit, I've been stuck in an identity crisis. You see, there is Karen the children's author. Of Facebook and Potatoes

Sometimes Facebook makes me crazy. Like today. I have a friend who confided in me the problems they were having in their marriage. And then they followed that up with an updated status picture of the four-person-happy-family.  The one where it looks like everyone is in love with each other, and where no one is neglected or lonely or certifiably insane.  Ironically, I have several friends going through this, and yet, you'd never know it from the beautiful lives they seem to have. ... Decisions, decisions…

Life is full of decisions. Small decisions, like what to make for supper. Large decisions, like how many children to have, or where to consider treatment for an illness. Sometimes, the decisions that we pore over seem to be the right ones at the time. For me, my husband and I decided to move to the city this summer.
